Some history

The city of the whales

Gulf Nuevo was known by English navigators and meticulously mapped by the crew of admiral Fitz Roy from 1826 to 1836. Attracted by the organization of Lewis Jones, Edwin Roberts and the captain Sir Love Jones Perry, 153 Wales serttlers arrived on the 28 of July of 1865.

Although few of them were farmers their objective was to cultivate the Valley of the Chubut river and therefore their stay in the port was short. In few months they moved to the margins of the river where they dedicated to the wheat planting.

The layout of the Trelew railroad - New Bay, the beginning of the fishing industry at the beginning of century and the construction of ALUAR in the seventies laid the foundations for an important and uninterrupted growth.
