The Ecocenter: A Place to Discover the Sea
Puerto Madryn’s Ecocenter is a space of reflection and knowledge inspired by the patagonic sea that promotes through education, science and art a harmonic attitude with the ocean.
The main exhibition, “In the Shores of a Cold River of the Sea”, it show us how the sea was created, thanks to a combination of oceanic bottoms, moving water, photosynthesis and the various organisms that inhabit it.
This exhibition combines modern aspects of interpretation with artistic details and audiovisual presentations. It aims at helping to understand and protect the sea, offering the visitors an opportunity to understand the world that surrounds them with values such as respect and the will to discover.
The message that the Ecocenter leaves is that the marine ecosystem is vast and complex, where it’s various components and process are connected, so what happens to one of this ill affect all the others.
We can also visit the exhibition “Inhabitants of a tide well”, which is an artificial pond that simulates a tide well. So we get the chance to see in their habitat various marine invertebrates, like starfishes and anemones living with crabs and snails.
Also, there’s the new room, “Shadows and Rumors of the Whales”, that holds an entire showing of the Southern right whale. It has panels about biology and ecology, videos and an installation that will transport us, with the sound of whales, to an intimate contact with the sea world.
Another interesting exhibition is “Far and Deep Sea”, about the geography and the species that inhabit in the depth. There’s a complete skeleton of a whale, a tower with an incredible view of the Golf to relax and enjoy, a fully equipped auditorium for conferences and workshops, a section made especially for kids and a gift shop.
The Ecocenter is opened all year long, from Tuesday to Sunday between 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. It’s located at only meters from the famous monument to the Indian, in Punta Cuevas, Julio Verne Street 3784.
