Valdes Peninsula

National Route 3 crosses all of Patagonia from north to south, staying always near the Atlantic coast.

This route meets provincial route 2 near Istmo Carlos Ameghino. One must take this route towards the east to enter the Peninsula. In bus, airplane, or car, the starting point is usually Puerto Madryn, that has all the services, port, airport and travel agencies.

From Puerto Madryn, during whale season (June to December) it is worth the trouble to travel first a section provincial route 4 for a first peek at the whales in the beach El Doradillo, considered natural area of reproduction.

After traveling 77 kilometers you arrive at Istmo Carlos Ameghino, front door to the Valdés Peninsula Reserve. Advancing 25 more kilometers the tourist village of Puerto Piramides, from where you can see the Frank Whale on board of specially prepared boats.

5 km away is the Lobería of Punta Piramides, station of marine wolves during the time of reproduction, between December and March.

From Puerto Piramides it is possible to visit Valdés Creek, station of marine elephants, and North Point, with marine wolves and elephants; traveling on dirt roads the circle road covers 75 kilometers approximately.

Along the trip do not forget that you are crossing one of the few places in the world that conserves intact the characteristics that more ago than 160 years astonished of Charles Darwin in his history making trip.
