Watching Condors
Getting to Junin de los Andes on route 234 we encounter with this platform of wood. It has various signs that inform us about the local fauna.
The platform is in front of a series of riffs, which at first look the same as many others seen before.
But, as we read the text, we realize that we are in a very special place; in front of us we will find the rocks were condors live. So, suddenly, we feel we have an opportunity to appreciate the world that surrounds us. It is amazing how a little bit of information can enrich our journey and made us enjoy more of the scenery. The signs also inform us about the local flora, with examples of the most common fruit.
We are told about condor’s habits, where they live, when and how they fly; they take advantage of the ascending currents so it is really strange to see them flap. Because of this they can fly big distances using little energy.
flora and fauna
They are really big birds, which makes it easy to see them, even when they are flying at high altitude. This place offers us a unique opportunity to connect with nature, with unknown aspects of the world that will come to life throughout our patagonic trip.
And if we are lucky and patient it is possible to see this giants flying above our heads, looking for their prey.
A great opportunity to stop, watch and learn.
