Correntoso Lake and River, The shortest river for the greatest fishing
Leaving from Villa La Angostura in the direction of the Seven Lakes Road, or the border with Chile, you will find a bridge over the Correntoso River after traveling for some kilometers.
The view from the bridge is amazing: surrounded by high crags you will see the short course of the Correntoso River, through which the Correntoso Lake drains into the Nahuel Huapi Lake. If you look South, you will see the Nahuel Huapi surrounded by hills with dense forests.
High above, over the river’s mouth, you will see the imposing Correntoso Hotel, a beautiful building that used to concentrate the tourist activity in the region since the early decades of the last century. If you look North, you will see the narrow Correntoso Lake, which extends from North to South.
bridge above and the pedestrian bridge below and in front.
Walking down along the Eastern margin of the river is worth doing. The gravel road detour is around 500 meters before the bridge, towards the left (at the sign indicating a campsite).
The course of the river (one of the shortest in the world: 300 m.) is dotted with basaltic rocks and has an ichthyofauna composed of rainbow, brown and stream trout.
The source of the river is strongly protected as it is the spawning area of these species. Only a few meters away, the place gathers fly fishing experts due to the ideal conditions for fishing offered by the Correntoso’s Mouth. If you continue along the gravel road, you will get to the southern bank of Lake Correntoso.
It goes from North to South, and it is enclosed by high mountains. It has greenish clear waters and irregular coasts. Its ichthyofauna is of great important, giving the possibility of fishing excellent examples of rainbow and stream trout.

At the South coast, you can find the campsite and a warm beach, which is the departing point for activities such as swimming, kayaking and windsurfing. All these activities, as well as sport fishing, constitute the area’s main attractions, and have encouraged the settlement of tourist hotels and cabins on the banks of the lake.
If you continue along the gravel minor road, you will be bordering the south edge of the lake. You can go back taking Los Arrayanes Avenue until you get to Villa La Angostura. Otherwise, you can take again Road N° 231, the same that you took there.
