Day Trip: Coihue El Abuelo and Brazo Última Esperanza
Duration: one day riding in bicycle. Distance: 35 km, going by route 231 and returning by the old route. It is necessary to hire a guide.
Before departing from Villa la Angostura, it is possible to see lake Espejo, the Hotel Lago Espejo with its history of pioneers and the campground of the same name.
The footpath, that crosses a forest of coihues and other arbustivas species, arrives at an evergreen plateau. From there leaves the footpath to the Coihue called "The Grandfather" between cane labyrinths that grows in massive form.
The Grandfather is a large coihue (Nothofagus Dombeyii), whose trunk can be embraced between 8 or 10 people, it is 400 to 500 years old and is one of oldest of this sector of the National Park Nahuel Huapi.
The footpath is retaken until the plateau from where it leaves to the trail to the Brazo Última Esperanza.
You will see the Panguinal Hill (1383 mts.) and a small lagoon without name, in which fishing is prohibited.
