Cerro Bayo, a complete ski resort
Cerro Bayo Ski Resort is located right in Neuquén’s mountain range and only 9 km away from Villa La Angostura.
It was created in the mid seventies for the practice of alpine ski and it currently offers services all year long. If you leave from Villa La Angostura, you will travel along National Road N° 231 for 3 kilometers until you come across Provincial Road N° 66 (gravel), that leads you 6 kilometers uphill till you get to the ski resort.
There are several viewpoints along the road. When you get to the base of the mountain, you must leave your vehicle and ascend to the platform station either by trekking or by chairlift. From that point, you get an impressive panoramic view of the whole area.
Cerro Bayo offers excellent facilities for the practice of ski: 3 double chairlifts, 5 ski lifts, 1 T-bar ski lift and 2 baby-lifts. These means of elevation allow an average of 4,500 skiers per hour to go up the mount. Skiers can make use of 20 km of ski slopes, according to their ability, and enjoy a surface of 200 hectares of deep snow, special for snow board lovers.
At the base of Mount Bayo, visitors can rent equipment, have access to the ski storage area, leave their children at the nursery or hire any service offered by the Ski School. There is also a first aid room, opened during skiing hours, in case any sports people suffer an accident on the mountain.
Those skiers who wish to take a break and enjoy traditional dishes can either go to “Chalten”, a cafe located at the base, or to “Tronador”, at 1,500 meters high.
During the winter season, numerous traditional events are organized, such as the Torch Descent, that takes place every Friday at dusk, depending on the weather conditions.
Competitions of the Snow board Argentine Circuit are also organized, with a calendar established together with other ski centers. Apart from these competitions, meant for experienced snow boarders, there are other testing activities offered to beginners.
In Villa La Angostura, a locality with an unexpected growth in the past years, tourists will find a wide range of accommodation options. There are tourist cabins, hotels, apart-hotels of different categories and rates, varying according to the time of the year.
(We invite you to visit our accommodation section, where you will find the information you need to choose the hotel that best suits you).
The gastronomy of this beautiful locality, under the shadow of the imposing Bayo, is renown both at a national and international level. Lovers of good food can taste dishes typical of the area: wild boar, deer, trout, mushrooms and homemade farm products such as jam, jelly and liquor.
For those who wish to see other beauties in the South of Neuquén, there are excursions from Puerto Angostura to the Arrayanes Forest, sailing along the imposing Nahuel Huapi Lake. Just a few kilometers away from Villa La Angostura, you will also find Manzano Bay, a place chosen by many Argentine TV stars and politicians.

Villa La Angostura, and its Mount Bayo Ski Center, is one of the most beautiful places in Argentina and the world. You can get there either through paved roads or through the famous Road of the Seven Lakes, of incomparable beauty. In winter, we advise you to enquire about the state of the latter, as the snow sometimes makes it impossible to drive on. It is 45 kilometers away from the border with Chile, 76 km from Bariloche, 477 km from Neuquén and 1,624 km from Capital City.
In order to obtain an incredible panoramic view of the surrounding lakes and mountains (Nahuel Huapi Lake, Tronador Mountain, Quetrihué Peninsula), you have to go uphill until the Intermediate Platform station, located at 1,050 m high, either by trekking or using the main chairlift.
