Villa Traful: Famous among fishermen
As the waters of the springs, rivers, streams and lakes are limpid, cool and with good oxygenation, the intelligent seeding of exotic species has resulted in a considerable ichthyological population, with such big specimens that the area gained high prestige at both national and international levels.
Traful River rises in the lake of the same name and flows into the Limay River, in a place named Confluencia (because of the “confluence” of the two rivers).
Today, such confluence has disappeared. The river flows into the Collón Curá reservoir, which has flooded the area of the confluence, as well as great part of the course of the Limay River that flows in this same area.
The valley of Traful River is among high mountains. It is an area of transitional vegetation, with young stands of cypresses.
This river is a fishing paradise. What to fish: salmon, rainbow and brown trout.
North Branch or "Pichi Traful"
Long and narrow, this branch of Traful Lake is situated northwesterly from the lake’s main body. You can get there sailing on the lake or driving along Roads 65 or 234. Once you get there, you will find the park ranger’s house, where you can ask for information about places to stay overnight or camp. Into this branch of Traful Lake flows Pichi Traful River, contributing with icy and oxygenated waters. Excellent for fishing. Fly-casting fishing. Wide beaches for camping at the mouth of the river.
What to fish: an ideal place to enjoy trout and salmon sport fishing (trolling, casting and fly casting) and to sail different corners of the lake, especially at the mouths of the streams, where you can find the best specimens. It is compulsory to throw them back into the water as the ichthyological fauna suffered a substantial decrease during the past years.
