Traful and Lemu Cura viewpoints
Traful Viewpoint
Total round-trip journey: 10 kilometers. How to do it: by car, bike, horse or on foot
Leaving from Villa Traful in the direction of Confluencia Traful, and only 5 kilometers away, you will find this important panoramic viewpoint, which can be easily reached by walking along a footbridge totally made of wood.
There, you will see two balconies over the crests of the rocky formation with cliffs facing Traful Lake, and forming a natural wall just over 100 meters high. This wall forces the wind to rise up, producing the natural phenomenon of bringing back light objects.
The cliff shows the point where the head of the glacier used to be thousands of years ago, before carving the basin.
Information signs specially placed on both balconies provide some useful data regarding the landscape and the geology of this area.
Lemu Cura Viewpoint
Total round-trip journey: 6 kilometers
How to do it: on foot
Experience level needed: good physical condition
Special recommendation: take a water canteen.
Two kilometers after taking Road N 65 in the direction of the Seven Lakes, you will get to a cattle grid. As soon as you cross it, on your left, you will see the beginning of the three-kilometer trail, which is mostly uphill.
You will go through a spectacular cypress forest and after leaving behind the first rocks, you will come across a window that overviews the West side of Traful Lake. As you continue your way up, the vegetation gradually becomes more scattered and stunted, until you get to a crag 1,045 meters over sea level that faces eastwards, mainly towards the south part of Villa Traful, the continuation of the Lake, and Traful River’s valley towards Limay River.
It is advisable to do this walk after midday; the reasons for this being sun exposure and the possibility of taking better pictures.
