El Bolsón in the fall, the town all for yourself
The skies are a little more cloudy in the fall and it rains a day or two. Nevertheless, none of these details matter much.
The magic that has transformed it into a legend by dreamers, adventurers and hippies, stays year round.
In general prices in fall are a little more accessible and the fair no longer opens with the full 300 craftsmen who scramble for space between December and February. At this time of the year there will be only around 60, mostly residents of El Bolsón.
El Bolsón is not as cold a place as you may think. Although its geography corresponds to that of the most extreme continental south, March (fall in the southern hemisphere!) is a good time to visit. The city and all its circuits are available the same as in high season.
You may need a jacket but the sun is never completely gone.
The typical circuit through town includes: Casa de la Cultura, Municipal Library, etc. You may also visit the factory of candies and jams located three blocks of the municipality.
There is another interesting option, to fly across the region in a small plane from the local Flying Club. All do not dare but the experience is great, it gives you a birds eye view and it is not too expensive
Sites like El Hoyo and Epuyén are close by and. In just one afternoon it is possible to travel though them and to eat lunch with typical products and artisans beer by the heat of a chimney.
The Piltriquitrón is the only problem. If the climate helps it is possible to drive up until reaching a privileged view of the valley. From the streets of the town, however, it is difficult to see this enormous blue and green presence, since the low clouds are very common in March. And that is a great loss.
In summer its proximity with the town generates a feeling that oscillates between oppression and amazement due to its powerful presence. The fog that is common at the top makes a visit to the carved forest more complicated. It is located about 100 meters from the look out point. It is worth trying.
